IBJJF No Gi Rules for rashguard and boardshorts

I received an interesting newsletter from the International Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Federation today (IBJJF).  It appears they have created a set of rules as to what you can or cannot wear in their no-gi competitions.

According to IBJJF rules:

RASHGUARDS:

THE ATHLETES WILLING TO COMPETE IN JIU-JITSU NO-GI EVENTS SHOULD WEAR A BLACK BOARD SHORT (SEE REQUIREMENTS) AND A BLACK OR WHITE RASH GUARD HAVING AT LEAST 10% OF THE FABRIC WITH THE COLOR ACCORDING TO HIS/HER BELT RANK.

BOARD SHORTS :

MEN: THE COMPETITORS CAN ONLY COMPETE WITH ANY BLACK BOARD SHORTS (MUST BE ALL SOLID BLACK COLOR, NO OTHER COLORS WILL BE ACCEPTED).

WOMEN: THE COMPETITORS CAN COMPETE WITH ANY ALL SOLID BLACK BOARD SHORTS, ALL SOLID BLACK LYCRA SHORTS OR ALL SOLID BLACK LYCRA PANTS (MUST BE ALL SOLID BLACK COLOR, NO OTHER COLORS WILL BE ACCETPTED).

The IBJJF no-gi tournaments are still a new thing, but I bet it won’t be long before the rules are enforced in the UK soon.  There will be a no-gi tournament in Birmingham later in the year, but I’m not sure if these will be done by belt rank, or whether they will use IBJJF rules.  At the moment, it appears only Keiko Raca and Nogi produce ” IBJJF Approved” uniform, but UK distributors and manufacturers should take these rules into account when designing new rashguards and shorts.  I can’t think of anyone off the top of my head that currently stocks black or white rashguards with 10% of its colour being purple or brown.
